Is this thing on?

Microphone and notebook

You know what grates on me? When TV shows and movies have a microphone on a stage all set up and ready to go, and then someone comes up to it, says hi, taps on it, whatever. 99 times out of 100, what happens? Feedback. That loud squeal that happens when a microphone picks up the signal from the speaker, then feeds it back into the speaker a little more loudly, then that cycle repeats and you get an earful until the mic is cut off.

You know what doesn't happen 99 times out of 100 on an actual stage when a mic is all ready to go? Feedback. The person walks up, says hi, and it works.

The squeal of feedback on TV shows and movie microphones has become a trope, and I'm out.

Feedback loops are powerful things though. The purist form of a feedback loop is based in the physics of audio, but these kinds of loops are actually everywhere.

Your social media feed algorithms are all feedback loops; click on one type of post and the algorithm notices that, so it feeds you more of that type of post, which makes you more likely to click on that type of post which makes the algorithm feed you more of it, which...

Your gym routines and eating habits are probably feedback loops.

They're everywhere.

But what if a healthy, good, positive thing gets amplified?

That's what I'm hoping will happen as I relaunch this project. Again. With a new look and a bit of a new approach. I'm hoping that what I offer here will be worth amplifying. I hope it will resonate with you, and that you'll amplify it, and that together we'll be able to put more goodness, truth, and beauty out into the world.
